Big Name Updates
A lot of the big names in CMS land have release minor updates for their systems. Joomla has released 1.5.12 which contains a number of bug fixes and some moderate-level security fixes. Drupal 6.13 and 5.19 are maintenance releases fixing problems reported using the bug tracking system, as well as critical security vulnerabilities. TYPO3 has released 4.2.8, 4.1.12 and 4.0.13 that contain only bugfixes and minor security improvements.

Chyrp 2.0 Final(ly) Released
Chyrp is a free lightweight blogging solution developed by Alex Suraci. After about a year of work, he has released his long-awaited 2.0 version. Because it is a complete rewrite, he didn’t even bother to mention all of the new features. We’ll probably be adding it to our site soon, but its definitely worth a try if you’re looking for blogging alternatives.

ExpressionEngine 2.0 Enters Beta
Not a ton to report, but EE 2.0 has entered the beta stage. If you’re hoping to participate, you’d better read up quickly, unfortunately though the initial beta will be invite-only, and be a lot of people who saw Kaylee at the ExpressionEngine Roadshow. The second round will be open, so keep your eyes and ears pealed.

Meet Melody
While there isn’t a lot to “meet” yet, Six Apart has introduced Melody, a more community based version of Movable Type. Basically, Melody will feature more “bleeding-edge community-driven ideas, rapid iteration, and integration with the code of other open source projects”. Nothing too new has really been developed yet, but they do have a pretty website to show off.

Light CMS Adds Client Billing
Light CMS has added the ability for designers to let the system handle billing your client for you. Meaning that you set the price, and LightCMS (under a disguised name on your clients statements) will bill your clients and handle the whole painful process for you.

CMS Made Simple 1.6 Out
The guys at CMS Made Simple have released version 1.6 after a great deal of anticipation. There are a lot of changes, some large, some small, to learn about them all, you should get them from the horses mouth. Some of the ones worth mentioning are: better, faster, easier, more advanced permissions, new themes and content, and “forgot password” functionality in admin, just to name a few.

SilverStripe 2.3.2 released, multi-language support is back
SilverStripe has included multi-language support for quite awhile, but unfortunately it was “broken” when they released version 2.3.0 this past March because of major architectural changes within the system made at that time. With version 2.3.2 it is back, “The feature which provides this is called Translatable in the codebase, and it lets you create a page with variations in different languages.” Read more about it here.

MiaCMS and Aliro Join Forces
In a never-seen-before unbelievably unheard of move, MiaCMS and Aliro are going to merge to become one united CMS. If you’re not familiar with MiaCMS, it was a fork of the popular Mambo CMS back in the day, which split into a million ways to become Joomla, MiaCMS, and many others. While they only recently announced the merge, the two teams have been working together now for six months already. They will be using the name Aliro for the combined project.

Google Wave
We’re a little behind the times here I guess, but have you all checked out Google Wave? On May 28th they announced an upcoming new technology that will combine real-time communication (like instant messaging) with persistent content (like a wiki) and allows multiple people to be participating at the same time. It just might put a bit of new spin on content management as well as social media.

WordPress and Drupal in Webware 100
Both WordPress and Drupal have earned their places in the 2009 Webware 100, which is presented to the top 100 Web Apps on the internets these days. Both were in the “Social” category, and of course, this isn’t a huge shakeup because both won last year as well.

Typeroom CMS
Noticed a new kid on the block through CMS Wire this week called Typeroom (As if there weren’t enough CMS’s with the word “type” in them already). This one looks like a well implemented SAS (software as service) option that many designers would be happy with. Sign up for a quick demo if you’d like to try it out.
