New Light CMS Packages

Element Fusion has announced one new package offering for their hosted CMS solution for designers, Light CMS. Along with improvements to several of their other packages. While every package comes “fully featured” so that you can create websites, different packages have limitations on pages, disk storage, and number of editors. The new “advanced” package is $49 a month and gives you 50 pages, 3 GB of storage, and 5 users.

Set Your Content Free

CMSWire has an interesting post summing up the CMSExpo keynote by Matt Asay, the VP of Business Development for Alfresco. The main point of his message was that “open source is now mainstream and being embraced by the enterprise.” Most of it is related to the Enterprise market, but shows some general trends that are going on all over all markets.

TYPOlight 2.7.0

A new release for the TYPOlight web CMS has arrived. Version 2.7.0 is a minor release, but it does include some brand spanking new features for you to play with. It includes a new 2-column back end layout, improved security functions, extended search engine optimization options, featured news, and a book navigation module. In addition, it starts to incorporate some of the features set for version 2.8, like more helpful drag and drop interfaces. If you’d like to download it, you can do that here.

BuddyPress 1.0 Released

BuddyPress is an official sister project of WordPress, it is a social networking platform based off of an installation of Wordpres MU (multi-user) They have reached their 1.0 goal and are releasing it to the world. If you’re looking to set up a new  social networking website, and already have some knowledge of WordPress, this would probably be a great way to go.

Frog 0.9.5 Update Released

A new version of Frog CMS, a PHP port of the popular Radiant CMS, has been released into the wild. While still a beta version, this release takes some significant steps toward their 1.0 release. The majority of the changes take place under the hood where they’ve done a lot to allow plugin developers to more easily develop within the Frog architecture. Run SilverStripe on Microsoft SQL Database

The makers of Silverstripe are now offering a beta version of a module that allows the Silverstripe CMS to run off of a Microsoft SQL database instead of the typical MySQL database. You can learn more about it here, and download it here.

Automattic buys Blo.gs

Automattic, the parent company of the WordPress publishing system, has worked out a deal with Yahoo to buy its almost defunct blog updating service blo.gs. You can read about it on Matt’s blog, and Toni’s blog.

Put your vote in today in the Webby Awards: People’s Voice. You can vote for your favorites from five nominees in Web and Mobile Sites, Interactive Advertising and Online Film & Video. The Drupal community is particularly encouraging its supporters to vote for sites powered by their CMS. It’s possible that other CMS’s will follow.

Buzzr, Making Drupal Usable

The folks at Lullabot, who specialize in Drupal development and consulting, have been working on a pet project called Buzzr that builds on Drupal’s foundations, but aims to create a layer on top of it that greatly simplifies the user experience. While its not finished, they’re showing off the “proof-of-concept” idea in a video that is viewable on their blog, or after the break. It’s fun to see the idea, and to see Drupal become so user friendly. Hopefully they can contribute to the Drupal usability conversations in a helpful way. Read More…

Light CMS Updates WYSIWYG editor and file management

Light CMS will be doing a pretty big update of their hosted service next week that upgrades a lot of the behind the scenes compaibility with the WYSIWYG editor. The biggest changes that are noticable are within the file and image handling capabilities that allow you to upload multiple images at a time, organize them with drag and drop ordering, and edit them. They were planning on upgrading earlier this morning, but aparently it has been pushed back to next week due to some unforseen technical problems.
